A volunteer just took the microphone and roused the crowd a bit with a call for volunteers. p.m. Mayor Gary Becker was seen entering Memorial Hall about minutes ago flanked by U.S. Marshals. p.m. The Babcock family from Pleasant Prairie was first in line to see Sen. Barack Obama. People dubbed Jenn Babcock the new Obama girl for a personalized dress she made Tuesday night to show her support. The dress bore peace signs and phrases like Change We Can Believe In . Michael Babcock a year old who just passed his driver s test drove the family to the event. Behind them Carolyn Vinson of Racine sang songs of praise for Obama inventing lyrics like Didja Didja Didja Get That Power And Deb Kilgore of Caledonia said she came to be inspired like she hasn t been since John F. Kennedy led the nation. Most had alr! eady made up their voting minds. Scott Sweeney of Franklin pointed out they wouldn t have braved the cold if they still needed convincing. Not being of voting age didn t stop attendees. Kenosha high school students Melissa Sobin Ron Palmen Michael Muir and Allyson Brunner spent their off day at the event. Even if he doesn t get elected he s started something in young people Sobin said. Now they know they can do something. They re on the e mail list paying attention to the issues. When I read it I think he s actually writing to me Palmen said. Twin sisters Veronica and Monica Tye of Racine came to support the first real African American contender for the presidency. A rescue squad has been calledtoMemorial Hall to assist a person who is not feeling well. The person who has been waiting since p.m. is feeling dizzy according to a reporter. p.m. p.m. It s getting crazy at Memorial Hall as the Barack Obama rally is less than two and a half hours away from beginning. About staffe! rs and volunteers have been let in to the hall while more than Obama supporters wait outside in the cold. According to a reporter who is stationed outside of the hall the scenefeels more like a rock concert than a political rally.The crowd on occasion chants Obama as they patiently wait to get in to the hall. More than a half a dozen p.m. The Journal Times has learned in the last hour that the Operating Engineers Local has endorsed Barack Obama for president. Senator Obama s message of change and hope make him an attractive candidate. As President we believe Obama will achieve critically needed changes that benefit working families Local business manager Mark Maierle said in a statement. It is important to have a President who believes in the value of labor and the importance of a strong diverse middle class. p.m. According to a release from the Hillary Clinton campaign she will visit the state from Saturday to Tuesday. p.m. A representative of the Obama campaign in Washington D.C. called Ken Lumpkin publisher of the Insider News Wednesday mor! ning to make sure that he did not feel left out he said. They basically have assured us that that was not their intention and that they wanted to do whatever possible to rectify the situation Lumpkin said. I feel positive that the Obama campaign recognized that this was an oversight. Whether it was on purpose or not it was an oversight. Lumpkin said he and other black officials have been offered the chance to be on the stage at the Obama rally tonight. Lumpkin an Obama supporter said the campaign is inclusive and he stands by his assertion that the local point people of the campaign ignored the minority community. Alderman Michael Shields chairman of the Democratic Party of Racine said he was contacted by the campaign last night and offered a place on the stage. I support Democrats Shields said. My role has not changed. These comments come a day after a story ran in the Journal Times detailing in which black leaders indicated that the campaign has ignored them. BACK STORY p! .m. About to people are now lined up outside according to an eyewitness. It also appears that the traffic around the hall has picked up considerably during the last minutes. p.m. Four news trucks are outside of Memorial Hall as the media begins to arrive at Memorial Hall where presidential hopeful Barack Obama is scheduled to speak this afternoon. Across the street four protestors hold up signs demanding Obama to accept an invitation to debate Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin. On Monday U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin and Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton called on Obama to debate Clinton in before the state s primary on Feb. . Obama s spokesman Dan Leistikow according to an AP story said his schedule is still being put together. Outside on the steps about a dozen Obama supporters have started forming a line to get into the rally. It s still two hours before the doors open and another two hours before the Senator is expected to arrive. Inside the hall workers are putting the finishing touches on seating and signs. Two were seen hanging a large Racine for Obama sign! against the wall.
