Songs That Have No Music

These are some songs that I ve always wanted to put music to. I wrote these between . I can make songs up on the piano but creating a melody and harmony to go with song lyrics on the piano doesn t seem to be my forte . Hopefully one day these songs will have music. Daddy s Going Home I have a hero I call him my own protects me and loves me a love purely shown Time is moving fast The days are growing near Heavens boat is on its way to take the man I hold dear Chorus Love of my own He s swiftly fading away Daddy s going home in his arms I wanna stay The times of the past flash before my eyes dad holding me close strumming sweet lullabies once picking me up to play now confined to his bed the one who helped me grow now needs my help instead Chorus Love of my own He s swiftly fading away Daddy s going home in his arms I want to stay The time has come for my hero to fly The angels above lift him to the sky God has a mission and needs him there today I love my Daddy I ll see him a! gain someday Chorus Love of my own He has faded away Daddy s gone home In Gods arms is where he ll stay Rebecca Cooper Sleep The Pain Away Night has fallen all over me bedtime stories comfort me life has clouded my thoughts I cry until I can t see You walked through my door giving me something to hold now you ve fallen away leaving me alone and cold Chorus All I can do is sleep You no longer stay All I can do is pray Sleep the pain away I gave you my heart you put it aside I gave you my hand now you run and hide I m angry but I cry You hurt me but I love you You fooled my mind believing you did too Chorus All I can do is sleep you no longer stay All I can do is pray Sleep the pain away I hold back the memories they keep trying to come out I see pictures of the past I want to let the pain out Why can t you see the pain you ve caused Why can t I hold you and put this pain on pause I love you still though you re gone I still love you It s you that s wrong I m strong today I ve! slept the night through I ll live life complete with a love that s true Because all I can do is. Chorus X All I can do is sleep you no longer stay All I can do is pray Sleep the pain away Rebecca Cooper Fallen Angel He drives to school without any sleep wondering what more of life to keep Fool n the same people day after day he hides the bruises with a smile on his face His friend wonders but she doesn t ask It s hard to see the pain behind the mask Holding the load of a sacred storm everyday he wishes he was never born Chorus Through the tears and the pain he stood hard as a stone before the face he couldn t rise above Once his heart fell apart his spirit flew to a place where he s loved Fallen angel A young man cries in the still of the night nobody hears but he s try n to fight A delicate soul caught in the hands of fate When morning comes it ll be too late Chorus Tears fall like rain next to his place A quiet man with an upturned face His name carved on granite stone Nobody d forget the love he d shown Chorus Rebecca Cooper She s Not Like! Me Baby eyes full of tears telling me my worst fear you have to leave some other woman will be hold n you tonight Baby that girl played your heart she knew she d get you back from the start but you don t see. She s not like me She makes you cry I wonder why I m not there with you. Baby don t cry Daddy warned me from the start that you d go off and break my heart and go back with that other girl. but I m all right. I ve got time To make you see there s never going to be another me she s not that kind of woman. She s not like me She makes you cry and you wonder why I m not there with you. Baby don t cry You go home late at night she s ready for another fight You wonder what have I done. I miss my life One day you ll see she ll go and leave for another man just like I planned I m not there with you Can t you see she s not like me I m not one of those kind She makes you cry you wonder why I m not there for you Baby don t cry Can t you see she was never like me You never had to! leave She made you cry I wonder why you could never see. Quick Roundup 199

Good Article and a Case to Watch George Will writes an article well worth reading in full about the economic distortions brought about by government regulation of the number of cab drivers tGood Article and a Case to Watch George Will writes an article well worth reading in full about the economic distortions brought about by government regulation of the number of cab drivers through licensing schemes in such cities as New York and Minneapolis. He then mentions a rare victory in the cause of removing government interference from the economy. But all this is merely en route to his describing a very interesting and important legal case that has been filed as a result of said victory. In response the state created taxi cartel is asking a federal court to say the cartel s constitutional rights have been violated. It says the cap a barrier to entry into the taxi business constituted an entitlement to profits that now are being taken by government action. The Constitution s Fifth ! Amendment says no property shall be taken without just compensation. The concept of an injury through regulatory taking is familiar and defensible Such an injury occurs when regulation reduces the value of property by restricting its use. But the taxi cartel is claiming a deregulatory taking It wants compensation because it now faces unanticipated competition. bold added So poor is the general appreciation of the concept of individual rights that it is the abolition of a special favor granted by the government and not the government s being able to take property in the first place to which objections are raised Needless to say this is a case to watch and I am grateful that George Will brought it up. It is worth noting further that in addition to the economic distortions wrought by this government trampling of rights the very laws Will discusses are among those that made possible the recent attempts by Moslem cab drivers in Minneapolis St. Paul to impose their religious beli! efs on others by refusing service to anyone who wanted to bring alcohol on board their cabs. As Software Nerd pointed out in a comment T hey should abandon the tag system altogether and let the muslims refuse service if they want. Indeed. Under capitalism riders would have many other options available to them like refusing money to superstitious control freak cab drivers who won t carry alcohol. A Round of thanks . . should go to the unsung heroes in a story image from the Associated Press I read about yesterday morning in San Antonio. Heavy rains caused a Greyhound bus to hydroplane on a freeway nearly causing the bus loaded with passengers to plummet straight into the flood engorged Guadalupe River. Amazingly everyone lived and there were no major injuries. The focus of this news story was on the weather and the terror of the occupants before they escaped from the rear windows of the vehicle. In fact an official is quoted as saying that They were very lucky. The river was right underneath them. But this wasn t dumb luck This was an example o! f human genius in action but the clue was mentioned only in passing The bus broke through the railing of a bridge. That railing impeded the bus enough to save all on board and the engineers who designed it never came up. Were it not for the men who thought about how to make that highway as safe as it turned out to be that bus would have plunged into the river and we d have been reading about fatalities. We owe those men a word of thanks and especially since their effectiveness is so much a part of our daily lives as not to be regarded by most as newsworthy. An Example of Soft Paternalism From time to time I see various pundits including libertarians floating the notion that it is somehow okay for the government to enact Orwellian programs so long as they are sneaky about it. Now via Matt Drudge I see that this concept is being put into practice. The federal government is undertaking the most ambitious set of studies ever mounted under a controversial arrangement that allows! researchers to conduct some kinds of medical experiments without first getting the patients permission. The million five year project which will involve more than patients in sites in the United States and Canada is designed to improve treatment after car accidents shootings cardiac arrest and other emergencies. The three studies organizers say offer an unprecedented opportunity to find better ways to resuscitate people whose hearts suddenly stop to stabilize patients who go into shock and to minimize damage from head injuries. Because such patients are usually unconscious at a time when every minute counts for whom ed it is often impossible to get consent from them or their families the organizers say. The project has been endorsed by many trauma experts and some bioethicists but others question it. The harshest critics say the research violates fundamental ethical principles. bold added The article goes on to discuss how difficult it would be to obtain informed consent under the conditions during which one might become eligible for the stud! y and ends with the following quote from Myron Weisfeldt one of the organizers of this study Some people object to the whole concept of doing any study whatsoever without permission. We try to explain all the layers of approval we ve gone through and that this is the only way we can do the kind of research that could save many more lives in the future. bold added No mention is made as the difficulty of obtaining consent is used as a distraction of how difficult it might be for a loved one to lose someone who might have lived had he been able to avoid one of the experimental treatments. Furthermore Weisfeldt seems particularly hopeful that his layers of approval will disguise the fact that the crucial one is still missing that of the Guinea pig I mean the patient Even without disentangling the state from scientific research and medicine I can come up with one very simple if inconvenient way to get informed consent for these studies by asking in advance. By say cooperating wi! th insurance companies that might offer rate discounts as an inducement to study participants who might have to wear an ID bracelet or anklet or even an embedded microchip it would be possible to avoid making you or me into a laboratory animal at a time when as they say every minute counts . To save lives by attacking individual rights is a contradiction in terms. I find it quite disturbing that such blatant violations of our rights cause little indignation while being discussed in completely nonessential terms. American Idol 2008 Season 7 Thoughts So Far

Home About Handable Entries RSS Comments RSS Archives March February Why Read We hope to provide an interesting take on sports pop culture random thoughts and other world happenings. Feel free to chime in. American Idol Season Thoughts SoFar Posted on March by handable I admit it I have been watching. I do not know why I watch. I can chalk it up to watching it with my wife or being interested in pop culture but I won t. I just watch it for the sheer gluttony of it all. It is an interesting show with only a few front runners. Carly Smithson is the most talented singer of the bunch and she knows it but does middle America want a tattooed Irish Not American Idol that works at a tattoo shop and a bar Didn t she already have a record deal Syesha Mercado is pretty good too. She is a cross between Diana Ross and Thandie Newton . The men are ok too. Michael Johns another foreign Idol contestant is a nice Jim Morrison type with a decent voice and stage presence. David Cook had a grea! t performance of Hello this week but can his six head hold up to the public voting Six heads although worse than a five head are not deal breakers for the Idol in my book. His hair covers it nicely. The judges seem to love David Archuleta but something about him makes me dislike him. I cannot put my finger on it. Maybe his air of superiority masked by his aw shucks demeanor. Or his year old nose and ears on his year old face. I know how vain of me. VoteForTheWorst.com makes the process a bit more interesting for those of us who will never buy an album from the Idol winner nor remember them minutes after the show is over. Danny Noriega definitely not a Manuel is painful to watch. The signing is adequate to get him to this point but he has show tunes written across his face. I have no problem with his sexual orientation or David Hernandez or Archuleta for that matter. But do the voters think about this How about the middle Americans I previously referred to Does the way these! contestants swing move with their religious values We will see. Amanda Overmyer is also on VFTW.com but she is not the worst. She only has one sound that comes out of her mouth but not the worst. Her sound happens to be better than anything that comes out of Kady Milloy or Kristy Lee Cook s mouth but her looks may be what makes her an undesirable Idol. The aforementioned Malloy and Cook are easy on the eyes leaving you with two hands to cover your ears. To recap and decipher Winners Smithson Mercado Johns D. Cook Brooke White Losers Noriega Malloy K.L. Cook Luke Menard Company Since I do not vote we will have to see how America s top end up looking like. Am I close we will see. By the way Simon is pretty much on the money most of the time. He has an old fashioned taste but he seems to hear what the other judges miss Marketability. Randy is there to name drop and Paula to be the woman . Simon is the only one with the right mindset. His persona of being a drab mean judge is just his shtick. More from Chris Riemenschneider The Kid stays in the picture We re here every week Louris is ready for the Vagabonds life The mystery of Chan Keys to the highway If there s one thing Muja Messiah is really good at it s getting people s attention. He does it by pointing pistols at cameras and dropping gunshots onto his recordings trite and true gangsta rap gimmicks that generally don t fly in the Twin Cities hip hop scene. Mostly though he does it by talking smack. Case in point One of the first times I saw a performance by the Brooklyn Park reared rapper which he likens to being from north Minneapolis he berated former City Pages writer Peter Scholtes onstage for his excellent oral history on the local hip hop scene. Muja s problem with the article He wasn t in it of course. That s just one of the many times Muja Messiah s mouth has earned him notoriety a trait he doesn t deny. I talk too much crap for ! little ol Minnesota the year old says proudly. Finally though people outside of his local rap peers and a small audience are learning that Muja Messiah has other skills besides making a spectacle of himself. A trio of songs is earning him more attention than anything he s ever said. One is curiously called Amy Winehouse and another is a remake of M.I.A. s Paper Planes. Both are featured on his new mix tape CD coming out this month Mpls. Massacre Vol. . Combined with an older online hit Patriot Act a political Molotov cocktail featuring I Self Devine Muja has built an underground audience online by applying his audaciousness to his songs. Vibe magazine recently named him one of the best MySpace rappers and his list of MySpace.com friends is more than and rising. By the end of this year people will see what I ve been doing all along that I ve been working hard and I m ready to sit in the same room as Kanye and Jay Z the rapper said confidently in an interview last week. His confidence arises mainly from the official album he has in the can ready! to drop over the summer. Titled Thee Adventures of a B Boy D Boy it features guest spots by the Roots Black Thought Eminem beatmaker Che Vicious Slug of Atmosphere and many other locals. The difference between that album and the new mix CD he said is one s essentially a setup to the other. I only put together Mpls. Massacre because I had or so tracks that I had nothing to do with and I wanted to get something out quick he explained. If Mpls. Massacre is made up of leftovers and outtakes then Thee Adventures really must be as strong as he makes it sound. The mix CD actually tracks but still an impressive output features a mix of thug leaning tracks a few party anthems and one political thinker True Lies. The latter follows Patriot Act s lead with such bold assertions as The Taliban you kidding me They ain t killing me They re all a bunch of wimps Terrorism doesn t exist to me It s all politics. And then there are the CD s random oddities including Amy Winehouse. It s not ab! out the British singer bad girl nor does it even sample one of her songs in fact it uses Rihanna s Umbrella but it does rhyme Winehouse with White House and that ol girl from Grindhouse while riffing on troublesome women and Minneapolis pride. I might do a song called Britney next Muja quipped. As for the Paper Planes remake when Muja heard the original he said It was the best thing I d heard in a while I just had to do something with it. To help with the song s redux he enlisted burgeoning Minneapolis via Ghana rapper M.anifest though they d never worked together before. He sent the track back with lyrics in two days and they were tight Muja recalled. That dude s efficient. The mixed bag aesthetic on Mpls. Massacre is actually perfect for Muja Messiah. He s the rare rapper who knows inner city violence firsthand an older brother was shot and killed and so were some of his friends he said but who also knows plenty about politics socioeconomics and other topics popular in so called backpacker hip hop. He has been mixing it up like this since he! first hit the scene with his group Raw Villa around the start of the s. I m from the era of A Tribe Called Quest and N.W.A. and here in the Midwest I was literally right in between those two he said. Kanye also as a Midwesterner is really the embodiment of that. Following Kanye s lead Muja said he explores more personal themes on Thee Adventures. He was born Robert Hedges for some reason he has never revealed his name to the press to a black mother and a white father who he said abandoned him. Local bigwigs I Self Devine and Slug pushed him to be more personal he said. I was driving around with Slug just listening to my songs and I had this funny track about Dianetics. Slug said to me It s clever and everything but I don t know if it s right for your audience. How many people in north Minneapolis care about Dianetics and Tom Cruise In other words Muja Messiah is thankfully the rare Minneapolis rapper not trying to sound like Slug whose audience might indeed laugh at a Dian! etics track . But he is one of the few rappers in town who might tell you point blank he s way better than our big kahuna. This might be the year we ll find out. New Moon While his Bryant Lake Bowl CD party will have happened by the time you read this Friday morning Kill the Vultures rapper and Roma di Luna singer songwriter Crescent Moon Alexei Casselle still deserves attention for his latest project a solo EP recorded with the Heiruspecs offshoot band Big Trouble appropriately titled Crescent Moon Is in Big Trouble. Issued on Afternoon Records the six track finds Crescent spewing dark and weary sounding tunes such as Hunting Season and Where the Cutthroats Stay over gritty smoky bluesy and raw rock n roll captured with a great live sound by producer Joe Mabbott . Interestingly the final track on the EP is a version of St. James Infirmary a jazz blues standard that seems better suited to Casselle s Roma di Luna but soars here. Random mix Speaking of Afternoon Records label founder Ian Anderson has up and taken his band One for the Team off th! e roster of his own record company to sign with a bigger one. OFTT s in the works sophomore album is due this summer on the Militia Group a Long Beach Calif. label that s home to the Panic Division Juliette the Licks and Cartel . . Anyone who plans on watching Sunday night s episode of Dirt Anyone Anyone keep your ears peeled for a track by Moon Maan . Rick McCollum s mighty band landed its song Chain Yr Soul on Courteney Cox s FX series. . The Hold Steady will be back in town to play Northrop Auditorium on April a special concert rewarding U of M students who take part in the Minnesota Student Association s community service. Loved the quote from MSA Vice President Ross Skattum in the Minnesota Daily We wanted an act that was a little bigger than Guster . The band should be back with a regular gig later in the year to promote its fourth album which it just completed last month with producer John Agnello the Sonic Youth cohort who also handled Boys and Girls in America . . ! The Honeydogs show Saturday at the Uptown Bar is their first gig since November and their first at that club in years. Frontman Adam Levy said they will play tunes from a new album they re about to record. . Mason Jennings isn t just recording for Jack Johnson nowadays his new CD comes out in May on Johnson s Brushfire Records he will also be the Hawaiian surfer dude s opener on a summer tour that lands June in Somerset Wis. . The list of local acts headed to Austin Texas for next week s South by Southwest Music Conference seems to be growing by the minute. Many bands such as the Alarmists Vampire Hands Romantica and First Communion Afterparty are going even without being officially accepted by the conference proof that getting in is as political as it is musical . Editorial Conservatory of culture Sun Star

POLITICAL and economic issues are now choking General Santos information highway. In fact they are nearing the limits of our mental fortitude. So it is now time to take respite from all these mind boggling issues and explore the still widely unchartered terrain the realms of culture. Last Saturday we watched the MSU Kabpapagariya as it rendered a concerto of cultural songs and dances during the wedding reception of Suelyn Guerrero and her American husband Reginald Williams at the Phela Grande Convention Center. Arroyo Watch Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo The rendition was powerful. We are moved and awed by its mystics. It was so magnificent that our spirit had seemed to depart from our physical self to join the clouds and be free. The spiritual ecstasy was momentary but it was a sweet divine experience for us. Perhaps what added to its powerful impact was the way the MSU Kabpapagariya had revolutionized its craft. In the past the rhythmic smooth and artistically graceful ! movements of the fingers hands feet and body are specific roles which were traditionally assigned to women dancers. But now the men are doing exactly these with perfection and finesse. Kabpapagariya s symphony lifted our spirits into the horizons and its dances showed off in fascinating cadence by men and women clad in mystical native outfits were virtual time machines which brought us back into our glorious past away from the shams and fakeries of the present. Really Gregorio Zaide and Teodoro Agoncillo were terribly wrong in tracing our society s roots mainly to the Aetas of Panay. Neither Onofre D. Corpuz was correct to regard the Tabons the ancient cavemen of Palawan as our leading ancestors. We disagree with Renato Constantino that Zaide and Agoncillo and perhaps Corpuz had conspired with our colonial masters in committing a wholesale insult against the Filipino race by tracing its roots to lower classes of people. Such sad commentary is inexcusably racial. But we do a! gree with him when he said that Zaide Agoncillo and perhaps Corpuz had deliberately schemed to eclipse the many rich Filipino cultures and traditions in the pages of our history and worse in the collective memory of the nation. Fortunately what our history writers failed to do the MSU Kabpapariya is doing it for us earning for itself the esteemed honor of serving as the conservatory of our cultural heritage. Driving technology equity The Charlotte Observer

His business depends on cars but David Boatman loves riding his bike. Boatman is president and CEO of Drive Technology Group in Matthews which develops business software for car manufacturers and dealers including Charlotte based Sonic Automotive and Hendrick Automotive and financial institutions such as Bank of America and SunTrust. The company founded in early also is a telecommunications vendor for such organizations as McDonald s the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Speedway Motorsports. It has employees and more than customers Boatman said and averages million in annual gross revenues. In January Boatman and Paul Dion of Florida founded DriveEquity which provides a patented biweekly payment program to auto RV motorcycle and boat dealers. Buyers can pay off loans faster or add options under the original terms and dealers can charge buyers extra for the program and make money from selling options. Before launching the two companies Boatman was chief information o! fficer and vice president at Sonic Automotive for five years. A native of Knoxville Tenn. he studied computer science at Asbury College in Kentucky and received a bachelor s degree in business from Montreat College. Drive Technology Group and DriveEquity recently moved from Pineville to Matthews but one constant has been Boatman s attempts to sneak out each day on his bicycle. An avid road cyclist he keeps a bike in his office. Questions and answers were edited for brevity and clarity. Q. Why did you leave Sonic to start your own company My strengths are growth and high rate of change. By Sonic had a reliable infrastructure that was bulletproof and had a mature technology and telecom team. So we moved to the next challenge starting a solutions and technology company and growing it over time to become the best of class. Q. What was it like working for Bruton Smith I never saw him back down from a challenge or give up. He is always thinking of ways to make new things happen i! n the business world always looking for the platinum lining. He knows what he wants and demands a lot from his people but never more than he is willing to give. Q. Were there any surprises in starting the company It is more difficult than it looks and takes longer than you expect. It is more about the team than you. You can never get enough funding. It can be the most fun you can have at work. Q. How has the economic downturn affected business We launched DriveEquity at a pivotal time to help dealers realize more profit. In this climate there are those who make necessary changes to adapt and take advantage of this economy and thrive. Then there are those who believe everything they hear and hide and they will probably not survive. Q. Why did you to launch DriveEquity I had been working with Paul Dion on some joint technology and over a conference call late one night we decided to develop an idea he had been working on. This product helps customers reduce debt and increase equity in vehicles while allowing the dealer to recover some of the prof! itability they have lost over the years. So both sides win. Q. What has been the result We are ahead of plan for the first year and excited about the response from dealerships. They get it and they are pleased that it is not just another widget to sell but a service that actually helps the customer and the dealer at the same time. More than people are selling this product on the East Coast and we plan to expand west over the next year. Q. How concerned are you about the downturn affecting this new effort Not at all. DriveEquity will help dealerships during this tenuous period. The retail automotive business is the strongest industry in the nation and has survived wars market collapses and many other threats. Something wicked this way comes

Nestes documentos l em se claims of Microsoft owned or Microsoft controlled patents that are necessary to implement only the required portions of the Covered Specification that are described in detail and not merely referenced in such Specification . E promises not to assert any Microsoft Necessary Claims against you for making using selling offering for sale importing or distributing any implementation to the extent it conforms to a Covered Specification . A good process gone bad For a standards body to have credibility the procedures it follows need to be credible. ISO s JTC directives say that the objective in the development of International Standards should be the achievement of consensus between those concerned rather than a decision based on counting v! otes. Clearly there has been no achievement of consensus regarding the adoption of OOXML as a standard and therefore ISO has turned to a voting process. We believe that the flaws in the ISO voting process for OOXML are so serious that they must be addressed in order to maintain ISO s credibility as a standards body. For a standards body to review a proposal adequately and achieve consensus the participants need to be involved in the entire review process not merely show up to cast a vote. Powered by ScribeFire .
